Two invisible jewellery glass display cases in Tadao Ando’s jewellery box of the Aurora Museum.
viewTechnical cases, opening systems, AER tested, atypical finishes (bronzed), climate control, anti-reflective glass, worked closely with architect. The architects designed 25 different types of display cases and specified passive microclimate air conditioning systems, seismic isolation, security systems, fiber optic lighting systems and non-reflective glass. The design consisted of dark painted bases and medium oiled bronze. The client and the architects chose GLASBAU HAHN as the case manufacturer because they were convinced, GLASBAU HAHN could best fulfil their requirements for function, quality and cooperation. The engineering and production team at GLASBAU HAHN considered the requirements and turned every type of case into 3-D production drawings. During this process, GLASBAU HAHN developed new opening mechanisms, which were customized to the local requirements. Material samples and new metal sections were produced. These drawings were presented to the client and in a joint team work adjusted to the perfect case. Prototypes of the most important case types were produced in the workshop at GLASBAU HAHN. Once the design and quality of the prototypes were accepted, the engineering team at GLASBAU HAHN produced 2-D AutoCAD shop drawings of 61 cases, which were approved by the client. A master matrix of all display cases, which included every special requirement, served to manage the project financially, design and schedule-wise. Before the cases were crated and shipped all cases were tested and approved on air-tightness and a respective report sent to the client. Since most cases were relatively small, they were generally shipped in an assembled form to the Getty Villa. On site the top installation team of GLASBAU HAHN unloaded the cases and installed them inside the villa.
